The photos in this flash gallery are black-and-white images taken by the late Mr. S.E. (Sid) Pitcher during his first tour of duty at the Met Office at RAF Gan in 1965.  I first met Sid during his second tour, when he was head of the Met Office on Gan in 1971-2 and was thus my key contact there for starting up my oceanographic project (Equatorial Undercurrent Project).  I struck up a lasting friendship with Sid and his family – see:

Sid’s original film negatives were given to me a few years ago by his widow. I have scanned them and then chosen a subset for these folders, guessing at images – largely of people - that might be of most interest to viewers of this site and that do not overly duplicate items such as general landscapes that are already plentiful on the site.
